If you're new to quilting, you will love this easy self binding baby blanket project!
I created 1 blanket and 2 loveys in just a of couple hours with this easy tutorial by Missouri Star Quilt Co.
I used my own custom designed "Happy Trains" fabric collection printed on Spoonflower minky fabric, but you can use any baby soft fabric you prefer.
The video gives all the instructions, but here are my steps in case you want to see the process in more detail.
Step 1: trim your backing 6 inches wider than your front panel. I used a 36" backing for the self binding portion, and a 30" front panel for the main design. This allows your backing to wrap around to the front and provide a substantial border that adds nice visual interest to the design. I used a bold red to contrast the white background of my main design to really make it pop!
Trim all the corners off at 3.25" on a 45 degree angle. Fold the front sides together and stitch down.
Flip your backing right side out, position the front panel within the binding, and pin into place.
Stitch down the edge using a wide zig zag stitch and you're done!
